Annual Convention Of Chemists 2023

Welcome to the 60th ACC 2023 - Annual Convention of Chemists. The theme for the Entire Year's Conferences: Net Zero Goal &, Sustainability: Role of Chemical Sciences in Green Energy, Circular Economy, and Prosperity of India. These conferences will include participation by leading industries, academics, Noble Laureates and students, international Chemical Societies and Padma awardees.

Hon'ble Shri Nitin Gadkari, Cabinet Minister for Road Transport has kindly agreed to be the Chief Guest. Several sessions have been planned. We are approaching Hon'ble President of India to inaugurate the conference during one of the Two days.

In this 60th edition of our Annual Convention, we come together to explore and celebrate the contributions of chemistry to a sustainable future. From the fundamental principles of green chemistry to the transformative power of materials science, from circular economy strategies to innovative approaches in energy solutions, we will delve into the ever-evolving landscape of our discipline. 60th ACC will not only showcase cutting-edge research but also honor the excellence and dedication of our community.

In the spirit of the next zero goal and sustainability, let us collectively strive to make our world a better place. We are confident that the 60th Annual Convention of Chemists will be a resounding success, fostering collaboration, inspiring innovation, and enriching our understanding of the chemistry that shapes our world.

ORGANISERS

The Indian Chemical Society
The Indian Chemical Society, a premier Scientific Society of India, was founded in 1924, as National Forum for the community of chemists and members of allied disciplines in the country. The driving force behind its establishment was the nationalistic spirit prevailing in India under British rule. J. N. Mukherjee, J.C. Ghosh and S.S. Bhatnagar while carrying out their research work in the University College, London in 1919 for the D.Sc. Degree, took a decision that after coming back to India their endeavor would be to establish a Chemical Society like the Chemical Society of London. Their cherished dream was transformed into a reality with active cooperation of many of the leading personalities in the country, and the Indian Chemical Society was founded on May 9, 1924, as a registered Society, with Sir Prafulla Chandra Ray, the doyen of Indian Chemists, as the first President. Many of the distinguished personalities in the field of Chemical Science of that time in India took active interest in nurturing the new born Society. The composition of the first Council is shown below

Centennial Jubilee Year
As the President of the Indian Chemical Society, which entered the Centennial Year on May 9, 2023, I am honoured and privileged to invite you all to join us for the celebration mega event which we have planned in New Delhi from December 20-21, 2023. We have planned a series of conferences during the year with the valedictory function being in Mumbai from August 2-4, 2023.

It is a matter of great coincidence that G20, S20 and Azadika Amrut Mahotsav were organized during this year in different places in the country. The Centennial Jubilee Celebration will showcase the strength of Indian Chemistry and Chemical Industry. We have appointed a Local Organizing Committee. CSIR is the co-host. Dr. Ranjana Aggarwal, Director, CSIR-NIScPR is the Co-Chair.

The inaugural function was held on May 9, 2023, in Kolkata with Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal in the presence of a galaxy of scientists, Padma awardees and captains of Industry. Several important events will be organized throughout the Centennial Year from May 9,2023 to August 2, 2024.

The Indian Chemical Society founded by the great son of India, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray on 9th May 1924. The Society is a premier Scientific Society of India, was founded as National Forum for the community of chemists and members of allied disciplines in British India. The driving force behind its establishment was the nationalistic spirit prevailing in India under British rule. Drs. J. N. Mukherjee, J.C. Ghosh and S.S. Bhatnagar. Acharya P.C. Ray was the first academic entrepreneur having established the Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals in 1901, which is now a Govt. PSU and was known for the manufacture of hydroxychloroquine which was in the limelight during the covid pandemic. It is our plea to the Government to declare August 2, the Birthday of Acharya as the National Science Day.

It is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome you to the 60th Annual Convention of Chemists ( ACC 2023 ), organized by the Indian Chemical Society which is part of the Centennial Jubilee Celebration. As we gather to celebrate the society's remarkable journey over a century, we also embark on an exciting new chapter, exploring the critical role of chemistry in the next zero goal, circular economy, and sustainability.

For a century, the Indian Chemical Society has been at the forefront of advancing the field of chemistry in India. Our journey from a national forum for chemists to a premier scientific society has been one of dedication, innovation, and unwavering commitment to the pursuit of knowledge. Our founders' vision has transformed into a vibrant and thriving community of scientists, researchers, and students, all united by a shared passion for chemistry.

I am particularly eager to see the participation of young chemists, the future torchbearers of our society. This event provides a platform for them to share their research and connect with seasoned scientists from India and around the world. The exchange of ideas and mentorship will undoubtedly shape the future of our field.

In the spirit of the next zero goal and sustainability, let us collectively strive to make our world a better place. I am confident that the 60th Annual Convention of Chemists will be a resounding success, fostering collaboration, inspiring innovation, and enriching our understanding of the chemistry that shapes our world.

I look forward to an exciting and enlightening event and to the continued growth and success of the Indian Chemical Society.
